The hand-smocked bishop below was ordered by Shirley Hyder

for her soon-to-arrive great niece.

Shirley requested for the baby's initials to be monogrammed

on the front of the dress.

It added a nice touch, don't you think?

Sweet Vickie Mitchell ordered a blanket for

her granddaughter that is on the way!

She chose a flannel blanket with hand-crocheted trim

and we monogrammed "Maddie" in the corner.

Jamie Jaco had me monogram this tiny apron for Livia.

The apron is MUCH smaller than it appears in this photo!

However, I did make the apron. If that counts for anything)...

It would probably makes using products like this a little more fun...

I am seriously started doing my spring cleaning.

That way, I'll be ready to play outside when spring is here without feeling guilty!

These four Christmas stockings are on their way to China.

I made the stockings especially to send to Clint and Linli.

Of course, I couldn't send them one without including her parents.

I'm sure Clint will have to explain what the stockings are for!

We (us and the Hyders) packed a box with some special little things

to help them celebrate Christmas and mailed to them.

I hope it makes Christmas seem a little brighter.

We miss them so much!

Family Time...

We spent our Sunday afternoon with Julie, Chris, Kirsten and Bailey. Family time is so very special to us, especially since they will be moving to Florida very soon. Most of the afternoon was spent fishing in the river behind the house. It was a wonderful afternoon.

My First Titans Game...

Terry and I attended my first (he's been to a pre-season game - not exactly his first) Titans game.Tennessee Titans vs. Texas to be exact. We had a wonderful day. The weather was perfect, even if the final score wasn't! Thanks for the tickets!(You know who you are) The seats were fabulous! All the seats had pink posters on the back in honor of breast cancer. At a certain point everyone was asked to hold up their poster at the same time. Awesome. I was in a tiz the night before the game because I don't exactly have a "Titan's wardrobe". I heard on the news they were honoring breast cancer so I just decided on wearing PINK! Fun, fun day!

Brenda was given a seasonal Dutch doll quilt by the accounting department. Tammy McKinney's mom (her name has left me at the moment)is responsible for this beautiful quilt. The back of the quilt was very cute also. It was made of blocks with stick people that represented the different personalities of the accounting group. (Should have made a photo of the back - but I didn't) Brenda had wanted a "picnic" so we chose to use a red and white check theme with sunflowers and canning jars.

Life is busy

Things have been so hectic lately. I have been sewing and monogramming like crazy and forgetting to photograph most of what has gone out my door lately. There have been lots of baby showers, not to mention a bridal shower and graduation. Oh, how I wish I'd made photos to share. I have aprons on my mind. My friend made the cutest apron for the bridal shower Sunday and I'm wanting to finish up my current sewing so that I can make a few aprons. Aprons are one thing that I adore. I love them all. Especially the happy, fun fabrics that the designers are coming out with these days. And speaking of fabric, do you have a favorite fabric designer? Go over and check out the blog "bee in my bonnet". You won't be sorry. Some of the most adorable fabrics, aprons and quilts you'll ever find. Lots of eye candy there! (This is probably my only post since I started my blog that doesn't include a photo of something!)

Felted Wool

Back a few months ago I attended a "felted wool" class taught by the ever-so-talented Cheryl Hitchcock. The class fee was to raise money for Cheryl's relay for life team. We had a wonderful time while she taught us the basics of felted wool. I started making this purse but never finished it after the class. Tonight I decided to complete it so I could put the bag of supplies away without feeling guilty. I used a wool sweater purchased at Goodwill ($3) and the red flowers are made from a wool blazer purchased at the Senior Citizens Center thrift store($1.50). Pretty cool for a first effort. Next I want to try something using the wool roving. More on that later.I suppose I will have to put the purse away until next fall before carrying it. It is spring you know! But...I'll be prepared when the weather is right ;-)

We were out of town this weekend and didn't return in time for me to attend the shower for soon to arrive Chloe Marie Cathcart. I would have loved to be there. A hand-smocked bishop dress, an owl teether, and a burp cloth was my gift...

Another gift for Chloe was a flannel blanket with a hand-crocheted scallop trim and two personalized burp cloths from Nancy McNeal...

I did the stitchery below a few months ago but never framed it. I decided this weekend that the perfect place for it would be on my desk at work. I can see it all day long and it is a perfect reminder for me.

Friendship Quilt...

After 36 years with Ben Lomand Telephone Company, our CFO Gail Woodlee will be retiring this month. The sweet folks in her department included me in the making of a quilt for her as a retirement gift. Each person's name was embroidered on a log cabin square. In the center was a needle-turn applique watering can filled with flowers. The project would have never gotten off the ground without the ever-so-talented Tammy McKinney. This girl truly amazes me with her quilting. I could learn a lot from her. Tammy comes from a family of quilters so I think she's had some great teachers along the way. Tammy's mom was the sweetie that stippled the quilt after the top was assembled. We are all truly grateful for all she did to help. Several different people contributed to the making of the quilt. I won't try to name them all for fear of leaving someone out. Tammy let me help her with the center of the quilt so she taught me how to do the needle-turn applique. I'm telling ya...this could be another addiction...

Move over Hellmann's...Hello Duke's

I have always been a Hellmann's mayonnaise lover. Always. Depended on it to always make the best potato salad. I must confess...this summer while we had family in town visiting I was asked if I had ever tried "Duke's" mayonnaise. Never heard of it in my entire life. So I made a trip to the store to find some Duke's. There it was. Sitting right beside the Hellmann's waiting on me to buy it. Why had I never noticed it on the shelf? We grilled that afternoon and spread on the Duke's mayo. Oh. My. Goodness. All I can say is "move over Hellmann's, hello Duke's". We love this stuff. In moderation of course. ;-) Mayonnaise is not something we use every day...but when we do, it will be Duke's from now on. And nobody told me to say this. I just wanted you to know. 'Cause I think it's good to share helpful cooking tips. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and you have lots of cooking to do. And I want you to get rave reviews on your cooking. Now run, don't walk, and get yourself some Duke's to make that potato salad and those deviled eggs.

and yes...we painted the cabinet white with red knobs. I thought the red knobs would be cute for this scene. I'm switching them out to some clear glass knobs now that I finally have taken it in our house. Glad this furniture redo is complete. Without the help of my wonderful husband, I doubt it would have ever been finished. Thank you Terry for all you do for me!

A couple of years ago my mother embroidered a set of pillowcases for me for Christmas. The next year she began a set for my sister. Having trouble seeing them, she asked if I could finish the task for her. After working on them a few minutes here and there I have completed them at last. They are all ready for her to give to my sister. Now don't tell anyone that she had help with this project...it's a secret.

Dish Cabinet Re-do

On a recent junkin' excursion, we found this dish cabinet. I had been wanting one for a very long time. This was the only one I had come across that didn't cost a fortune. But...it's not in the best condition. After taking this baby home, I noticed a lot more imperfections than I noticed while I was at the yard sale. Excitement had taken over and I just couldn't wait to buy this thing. All the while my husband was in the background shaking his head "no". But did I listen? No. He lovingly hauled my cabinet home for me and it is patiently waiting in the garage on me (with Terry's help of course) to start the re-do process. Problem is...I don't know for sure how I want it to be. I NEED your help deciding. Please leave me a comment with any suggestions. I'll be sure to post the finished product after it is complete. I can't wait to hear what you have to say!

In an effort to whittle down my stash, I finally made the jack-o-lanern mini quilt. I bought the pattern over a year ago on one of our visits to the Smoky Mountain area and just never got around to making it. Imagine that. You'd think I'm a pattern collector or something. Me? Not me. ;-D It's just so hard for me to resist a cute pattern when I visit The Pattern Hutch in Pigeon Forge, TN. I love that store. I could stay in there for hours...and I do sometimes ;-) Hubby is off fly fishing and I go roaming in my favorite stores collecting more and more patterns, threads, fabrics, etc. Don't you think it's so kind of me to give him time to fly fish??

p.s. - the Pattern Hutch has a website if you'd like to shop without going to Pigeon Forge. www.patternhutch.com They'd be proud to help you, I feel sure, 'cause they're really nice folks like that. :-) And no, they didn't ask me (or pay me) to say anything at all about their store. Terry had some family in recently and we spent some time visiting. We had a wonderful visit with them but it just didn't last long enough. It was sad so see Mimi head back to Arizona, Judy and Michael to Nashville and Christy and Andy back to South Carolina. :-( We will all be back together in December for the wedding of Judy and Michael! Can't wait to see everyone again. Here's some pictures of our time together. We were trying not to smile and it turned out sort of crazy, but it was fun. Actually we did make a group photo with us smiling and the file was corruped and didn't take. Go figure.

If you haven't stayed at Wilderness in the Smokies, consider it next time you take the family to the Great Smoky Mountains. The indoor wate park is loads of fun and the rooms are nice and most of all spotless. We have stayed there two years in a row and love it...
